Setting Up Two-Factor Authentication on Niobi
Introduction
Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a critical security layer that protects your Niobi account from unauthorized access. Even if someone obtains your password, they won't be able to log in without your second verification method.
The good news: 2FA is already active on your Niobi account by default. When you log in, you'll receive a verification code via SMS text message or email — you don't need to set anything up to use these methods right away.
However, for the strongest security possible, Niobi also offers an optional authenticator app option. This method generates verification codes directly on your phone without sending them over the internet, making them virtually impossible to intercept.
In this guide, you'll learn:
- How 2FA works on Niobi (SMS and email are enabled by default)
- How to use SMS or email verification when logging in
- How to set up and use an authenticator app for maximum security
- Best practices for account security
Time to complete: 5 minutes to understand 2FA; 5–10 minutes to set up an authenticator app (optional)
Your 2FA Options Explained
Niobi provides three 2FA methods to suit your preferences:
- SMS — ✅ Enabled by default, no setup required. Best for quick logins and an always-accessible phone.
- Email — ✅ Enabled by default, no setup required. Best for users who prefer email notifications.
- Authenticator App — ⭕ Optional, takes about 5 minutes to set up. Best for maximum security and offline access.
SMS & Email: Ready to Go
Your Niobi account is already protected with SMS and email 2FA. When you log in:
- You'll receive a 6-digit code via your phone (SMS) or email.
- Enter this code to complete login.
- No setup needed — it's working right now.
Authenticator App: Extra Protection
If you want the strongest possible security, you can add an authenticator app to your account. This is completely optional, but highly recommended for:
- Business accounts managing payments
- Accounts with payment authority
- Users wanting maximum security
An authenticator app generates codes on your phone that can't be intercepted, even if someone has your password or SIM card.
Using SMS or Email 2FA (Already Active)
Since SMS and email 2FA are enabled by default, you're already using them. Here's how they work during login.
During Login
1. Go to <https://app.niobi.co/login>
2. Enter your email address.
3. Enter your password.
4. You'll reach the "Enter Your Verification Code" screen.
5. Choose your preferred method: "Send Code via SMS" or "Send Code via Email."
6. Niobi sends a 6-digit code to your phone or email.
7. Copy the code and paste it into the field on the screen.
8. Click "Verify."
9. You're logged in! ✅
Changing Your Preference
You can switch between SMS and email each time you log in. Just click the option you prefer when you see the verification screen.
Pro Tip: If one method isn't working (e.g., no cell signal), you can switch to the other
