How to Top Up Your UGX Account on Niobi
Your Niobi UGX account allows you to hold Ugandan Shillings (UGX) for seamless business transactions with vendors, customers, and partners across Uganda.
The Niobi platform supports funding your UGX wallet through three methods: an external Mobile Wallet Deposit (via an automated STK push notification sent directly to your phone), a traditional Bank Transfer to a dedicated virtual account, or an internal Currency Conversion using your existing multi-currency balances.
Time to complete: 5–15 minutes depending on the selected method.

Before You Start
Make sure you have:
- An active Niobi account with the UGX currency wallet enabled.
- An active mobile money account or a local Ugandan bank account.
- An existing funded balance in another Niobi wallet (for Currency Conversion).
- Completed your two-factor authentication (2FA) login.
Step-by-Step Funding Methods
Method 1: Mobile Wallet Deposit (Fastest)
Niobi uses an automated STK push system to pull funds directly from your mobile wallet, requiring you only to authorize the transaction via your phone's PIN prompt. Niobi supports major mobile networks in Uganda: MTN Mobile Money (MoMo) and Airtel Money.
- Dashboard
- Initiate the Process: Log into your Niobi dashboard. From the main panel, click the Receive Payments button.
- Currency Wallet
- Select UGX: A popup window will appear. Choose UGX from the currency dropdown menu to isolate Ugandan Shilling funding options.
- Funding Type
- Select Mobile Wallet: From the available pathways, select Mobile Wallet.
- Provide Details
- Select Network & Number: Choose your specific Mobile Network Operator (MTN Mobile Money or Airtel Money) from the dropdown list. Enter your mobile money phone number, input the exact amount you wish to deposit in UGX, and click Proceed.
- Phone Authentication
- Authorize the STK Push: Keep your mobile phone close by. Within a few seconds, an automated secure prompt (STK push) will appear on your screen requesting your mobile money PIN. Enter your PIN to approve the transaction.
- Execute Order
- Log the Reference: Once your phone registers a successful transaction receipt from the network provider, copy the transaction reference number from your network SMS, paste it back into the Niobi confirmation window, and click Confirm to instantly credit your funds.
Processing Timeline: Mobile wallet deposits process immediately and clear into your balance within a few minutes.
Method 2: Bank Transfer
If you prefer moving larger sums from a commercial bank account in Uganda (such as Stanbic, Absa, Standard Chartered, or Centenary Bank), you can route an electronic transfer directly to Niobi's designated receiving bank account details.
